By April 25, 2018Life Hacks

What makes you nervous? For some people, it’s walking into a networking event or an interview. For others it’s standing up and presenting in front of people you want to impress. Building confidence isn’t something you can just do overnight. BUT there are some quick and easy tips you can use when you need a quick boost.
BUILDING CONFIDENCE

1. Flip the script – What can you do for others?

We’re usually wrapped up thinking about how people perceive us. My advice is shift the focus onto what you can do for them.

If you’re presenting to a client, focus on how you can help them achieve their goal. If you’re networking, how can you connect the person you’re talking to with one of your relevant contacts? Doing a presentation? Think about the knowledge you have and how others can benefit from it.

When you start to worry about being judged, bring your thoughts back to what you can do help.

2. Plan your outfit

I know that I always feel 100% more confident when I’m dressed smartly and wearing a little makeup. It makes me feel more put together and it makes a real difference to how likely I am to approach people and even how loud I talk.

I’m not saying you’ve got to go full Kim Kardashian with a glam squad but take a bit of time to wear something you feel good AND comfortable in.

After all, if you’re worried about what you look like, if you have a coffee stain on your clothes or how uncomfortable your shoes are, it’s just added stress and pressure.

3. Do a power pose

Go somewhere private (the bathroom if you have to) and do a power pose. For example, try standing in a Wonder Woman pose with feet apart, hands on your hips and head tilted up.

The psychology and science behind how effective these poses are has been debated but many people believe that your body language can impact your mindset. You can watch a Ted Talk about it HERE.
