017: Simplify Your Style to Match Your Personal Brand

Let’s talk Fashion. But more importantly… body positivity, personal branding and how all of that really plays a part in how you show up in the world as a creative and an entrepreneur.

My guest today is Carrie Montgomery and she’s an Image and Brand Consultant who is going to help us simplify our style to match your personal brand.

In this episode, you will learn:

  • How to create your visual identity and start to define your “soul style”
  • What are the 3 key factors to consider? (lifestyle, body image and body shape)
  • What is her “body mapping” system and how to choose colors that work for your style
  • What to do if you don’t LOVE your body. She shares simple tips to help you begin to heal and move closer towards body positivity and self-love.

As someone who’s struggled with loving the shape of my body for years…(really decades, friends, let’s be real) I share a bit more of my personal story in this episode and peel back the curtain.  We are all the same, we are one.

And you, my friend, are not alone…

My challenge for you this week:

Choose a look that unequivocally, authentically FEELS like you.  Show us who you are, share it with me, privately or publicly, by snapping a photo of you doing the thing and tag @thesimplifiers on Instagram for added accountability and support!

Favorite quotes from this episode:

[01:59] “Your visual identity is the thing that walks into the room before you open your mouth. It’s the thing that when someone pops on to your website, they’re like, “Ooh, I get her vibe.”’ – Carrie

[16:07] “The average woman in the US is a size 14, but then the average model is a size 2! So, you’re not seeing yourself on TV, print or anywhere. You’re not seeing yourself anywhere. So, you’re constantly getting that message from the outside world that you are enormous!” – Mary

[19:30] “This process allows you to have a practice on a daily basis of just asking yourself: what do I need to do to be as effective and powerful as possible today?” – Carrie

[20:47] “We can’t expect ourselves just to be like, “I’m healed and I feel love for myself. It’s done for today, forever in my life for good.” What I can invite you to do is stay engaged in the conversation. Listen, stay connected to your body, asked questions, and accept where it is now.  Acceptance is the biggest, biggest key to success and who you are. Because yes, we can want to change things and we can work towards that. But if we can’t accept our actions now of what we have done to be where we are, then we’re going to be constantly fighting that.” – Carrie

[22:24] “I start to wonder, if your mind is just in a state of muck, then it’s probably affecting your digestion, which is probably affecting your mid-section, which is probably affecting the way you see yourself?” – Mary

[24:33] “When the demons are all stuck inside our heads, it’s so hard to manage because you’re just listening to hogwash.” – Carrie

[25:32] “I think it does come back to self-love of really acceptance and understanding that your body is evolving constantly.” – Mary

[27:59] “Know that your body is the sacred space and that’s the container that holds the genius for your business and that it needs to be primed really well from the inside and the outside. Finding that balance and knowing that your image and how you feel about yourself when you’re in front of the camera and having your picture taken, that’s really important.” – Carrie

[31:39] “People want to do business with people they know, like, and trust. And the photos you put out there is how you represent yourself. So if it’s a selfie on your business profile page or on Linkedin? Yeah, like to your point, it makes me think, is this a hobby for her or a legitimate business? And you don’t want me to question that.”  – Mary
