Today, Tuesday, November 6th, 2018, the day this episode is released is a very important one in US history. Midterm elections.

No matter where you sit on the political spectrum, the impact of the midterm elections today are incredibly significant. As CNN Politics puts it…

“President Donald Trump isn’t on the ballot, but the results [of today’s election] will be a referendum on the polarizing US leader and his policies… President Trump could have more power or less in Washington by the end of Election Day.”

All 435 seats in the House of Representatives will be voted on, plus 35 seats in the Senate and 36 governors will be decided on November 6th.

Bottomline, the party that ends up in control of Congress can sway how (and what) policies are written and passed in the next two years. And ultimately, this affects women’s rights in the United States.

So, health care, the US economy, immigration, women’s reproductive rights. You name it… it’s all at stake here.

There’s also a historic number of women appearing on the election ballots in congressional and Senate races… 256 women, to be exact.

So please. I’m begging you. Each and every American that listens to our podcast MUST vote today. No matter what. Girl scout promise… you’ll go #DoTheThing, okay?

And if you need more reasons why…

My guest, Renee Powers, is going to simplify how to be a feminist.

While the world feels like a bit of hot mess at times (girl, I feel it too) Renee shares hope and simple, practical tips on how one person (ahem, YOU!) can ripple out and change the world.

In this episode, you will learn:

  • What is “feminism” and why now?
  • In what ways can I make a positive impact on women’s issues (big or small)?
  • How to handle the backlash or “mansplaining”
  • Where do I find other feminists like me in my community?
  • What is Renee’s hope and vision – in her lifetime?
  • What does it mean to be a “feminist life coach?”

Gone are the days of thinking that feminists are some radical group of people on the fringe. To be a feminist in my mind, is to be a humanist. It’s gender non-specific, really. It’s time to speak up, speak out, stand up and be brave.

Take a stand and let your voice be heard today with your vote.

We need you. You need you.

Let’s do this together.

Let’s #DoTheThing.

My challenge for you this week:

Go out and VOTE! If the time has passed for elections, vote for women this week with your moral support, money and words. How will you do it?

Share it with me, privately or publicly, by snapping a photo of you doing the thing and tag @thesimplifiers on Instagram for added accountability and support!

Favorite quotes from this episode:

[19:18] “We [also] are in a day and age right now where I think everybody’s really nervous, like, “Oh, you know, somebody’s going to shut me down because I’ve said the wrong thing.” – Mary

[21:42] “Vote for women, especially today, and don’t go in and just vote for the women’s names. Do your research. There are several feminist and pro-feminist men on your ballot. I’m certain of it, but fundamentally our government needs more women’s voIces.” – Renee

[22:36] “The very fabric of this country needs to progress, needs to keep going and the only way we can do that truly, is representation, diverse representation in our government.” – Renee

[29:19] “It isn’t necessarily just the [responsibility of the] person who is being targeted to step up to it… but everybody else that’s witnessing it as well.” – Mary

[30:07] “I think it’s critically important for us as the individual to also remember to find other feminists like me, right here in my local community.” – Mary

[38:06] “Liberation I think is the key. Liberation says this fence shouldn’t be here. Let’s dismantle it together.” – Renee

We are running a special deal in the month of November and December 2018 to get a 90-minute 1-1 business coaching call with me, where we’ll focus on 3 parts:

  • The first 30 minutes – reviewing how 2018 went for your business, celebrating your triumphs, reviewing your mishaps, and documenting your lessons learned
  • The next 30 minutes – vision casting 2019 ahead, determining how you want to feel, setting your 1-word intention, and helping you identify your big quarterly business goals
  • The final 30 minutes – creating a roadmap for the journey ahead, choosing to either focus on the final 5 steps you will take before the year end, or setting the first 5 steps to take in 2019 to have the Best Year Yet!

All the while, shifting your mindset and helping you get clarity and direction on how to simplify how you run your small business.

Clients have said these sessions helped them “laser focus on what’s most important and learn how to say NO to the rest.”

Another client said, “Mary, I got more value out of 90-minutes with you then I’ve gotten all year long trying to figure all of this stuff out on my own! It’s so nice to have a trusted mentor to bounce all my ideas off of and create a plan with.”
