Today, I want to talk about a simple principle you hear thrown around a lot in business marketing.
“Know, Like, Trust.” What does it actually mean? Let’s break it all down.
Do people really know your backstory, how you got to be this expert, and what fumbles you made along the way? Can you peel back the curtain and show them a little more?
Authenticity is everything in this age of filters and fake-ness. Share your story, your frustrations and your opinions. Your story helps your audience connect to the person behind the brand, and will save you from coming across as a phoney car salesman who is only interested in sales. Stories bind us together, and have massive power when used well.
It’s not about being popular.
It’s about finding like-minded people who will chuckle at your jokes, vibe with your vibe and appreciate you sharing about the path you’re on. It is most likely the same path as theirs, but just a bit further down the line. These are your people, the ones who wanna give you a great big bear hug when they meet you in person. They appreciate your quirkiness, your vulnerabilities… your YOU-NESS.
Your prospective clients are thinking:
“Can I trust that you will do the thing you promised?”
“Show up consistently?”
“Bring great value?”
“And when I hire you, will you exceed my expectations?”
This is important.
Think about how you relay these things in:
- Your marketing message
- Your FAQ page
- In your videos
- Podcast interviews
- Social media posts
Zoom out and take a helicopter view of your business to gain clarity.
You might be surprised what others see that you miss, in the thick of it.
