Thoughtful gift giving is a way to both nurture relationships with new prospects, and strengthen existing client relationships. Author John Ruhlin calls it ‘Giftology’ and he’s here to simplify how to get it right as a business owner. You’ll never send someone a shirt with your logo on it, ever again.

Today’s episode builds on two previous conversations we’ve had on the podcast, one on How to Simplify the 5 Love Languages – with Dr. Gary Chapman and the second was with How to Apply the 5 Love Languages in the Workplace with Dr. Paul White.

John Ruhlin, author of Giftology, simplifies how to master the art of thoughtful gift giving

In doing this, you’ll learn how to cut through the noise, increase referrals and strengthen your client relationships that’ll ultimately, help you grow and scale your business. All of this, simply by developing (what John calls) a ‘Gifting & Relationship Strategy’ plan.

In this episode, you will learn:

  • What John means by ‘Giftology’, and where it all sparked from
  • How to incorporate ‘Radical generosity’ into your work in big and little ways
  • How to create a ‘Relationship Action Plan’ to deepen relationships with your prospects and existing clients
  • Why it’s so important to focus on the WHO (as in, who are you going to love on?) rather than the WHAT you’re going to give, first
  • How to identify your client’s ‘Inner Circle’, and eventually, become part of it
  • Why it’s always a good idea to ‘give more than what is reasonable’
  • The one really big gift John gives his employees every two weeks that keeps them loyal, happy and thriving at work

If you’re struggling with:

  • Poor sales growth
  • People not returning your phone calls
  • Feeling like you’re spinning your wheels when it comes to sales

… this episode is specifically for you.

John believes there’s a better, simpler way… and it’s all about having a gifting strategy.

Favorite quotes from this episode:

(05:30) “In big companies, small companies; they’ll spend anything to get a client and nothing to keep them, and they wonder, ‘I don’t understand why I’m not getting referrals’. Well guess what? You have not inspired that other person to want to reciprocate.” – John

(06:15) “It’s love. I mean at the bottom core of it all, is love.” – Mary

(11:22) “The inner circle of who you’re trying to target is, as you say, the assistant, the spouse or partner, the children, and maybe even the pets. I think that’s brilliant.” – Mary

(13:11) “If I send out a thousand of the right gift, packaged the right way, and I personalize it with their family name, now all of a sudden it becomes a family artifact.” – John

(13:54) “If I can’t engrave it and personalize it (to the person), I won’t send it for our clients. I won’t allow them to do it.” – John
