What is the biggest challenge you face when it comes to balancing your life as an entrepreneur and as a parent?
Attending conferences and networking events. They are both so important for professional development and building relationships, but if you need to pick up a child from school by 5:30pm, it’s an issue.
Since having a child I have definitely had to cut back on after 5pm networking and on attendance at overnight conferences. The fact that I’m a a single mom compounds this issue.
What time management tips/tools do you use and would recommend to other entrepreneurs with children?
- Ordering groceries on-line with curbside pick-up (or delivery)
- Amazon Prime for almost ALL other shopping
- Ordering at least 2 meals a week from a meal-kit service – so you don’t have to meal plan as much
- Batiste Dry Shampoo – so you have at least a couple of mornings a week that you don’t have to wash your hair

What is the biggest challenge you face when it comes to balancing your life as an entrepreneur and as a parent?
Being disciplined enough to walk away from the business (and the laptop) when the kids are out of school.
My children are now all at school (youngest is aged 8 ) so I am able to focus on the business for a set number of hours a day -from when I drop them off, til I pick them up. It’s not always easy, and I do get up before the rest of the house in the morning to catch up on emails (as I am doing now to answer this!!), but it it’s the choice I made – so that I could work for myself and not have to leave the house every day to go to my old office job.
What time management tips/tools do you use and would recommend to other entrepreneurs with children?
- Having an organised, prioritised to do list every day. Having used Asana, 17 hats and others, I now find my whiteboard is the best tool I have – it is so visual.
- Knowing what is a must-do versus what is a ‘like to do one-day’ task helps me to focus and keep moving forward.
- I also live by my Google calendar and I have my work calendar, the school calendar and the family calendar all on there.
