Palm Door on Sixth
The original Palm Door on Sabine has long been a favorite of ours for urban-style weddings and special events. So we’re excited about the new Palm Door on Sixth which has almost double the capacity and is located right on 6th Street in the heart of downtown.
Taking over the space that was formerly The Stage country bar, the owners completely renovated the venue to give it a contemporary look that conveys the urban setting but doesn’t limit you to a particular style. The beautiful polished wood bars, brick walls and hardwood floors are highlighted by the vaulted ceilings and arched windows which let light flood in. For a more intimate, romantic feel, windows can be shuttered. Garage style metal doors separate out the interior spaces and add to the eclectic design character.
Like its sister venue, Palm Door on Sixth is a private event space and can be rented during the week and weekends. One of the things we love most is its size. It boasts a huge 3800 sq. ft inside and 3455 sq. ft outdoors, which in event terms means it can comfortably seat over 500 or close to 1000 standing. Not surprisingly, this was an extremely popular venue for SXSW, especially because of the built-in stage with professional light and sound system. This can be a great time and cost-saver if you plan to have a band at your event or make announcements or presentations from the stage.
The interior space divides into two sections. The main room features the stage and two long bars. The West room, with one additional bar, can be used in multiple ways – as a VIP room, a Bridal room, or even ceremony space in the event of bad weather.
But weather-permitting, you’ll want to use the outdoor space. Surprisingly spacious, the outdoors includes a 1150 square foot deck and a large lawn with a natural stone wall at one end which makes the perfect ceremony backdrop. A small cabin can be used as an extra bar or catering area.
Catering and bar services are provided by the highly rated Pink Avocado Catering which also run operations at the Sabine location. The Salt Lick Barbeque is Palm Door’s alternative authorized caterer.
Rentals are based on a 10 hour rate, which starts at $3500 for weekday use. This includes access to all areas of the venue, a day of event onsite manager, three fully stocked bars available for purchase and a licensed security guard.
This is a fantastic venue for weddings. Galas, corporate and live music events. It definitely has a 6th Street vibe but is sophisticated enough to wow clients or wedding party guests. Although it only opened at the beginning of this year, bookings are already being taken for 2015 and we expect it to fill up pretty fast as word spreads.
