Hot Mulled Cider
Brrr… baby it’s cold outside! When the weather turns frosty nothing seems more appropriate than a mug of something warm between your mittens. And what could be simpler than throwing ingredients into a crock pot, flipping that bad boy on, and then letting the aromas simmer and meld while you do some holiday shopping. This hot and fruity mulled cider not only tastes delicious but (bonus!) the house will smell divine as well. Brew this winter concoction and share the warmth with those you love this season.
Ingredients:
- 1 apple, cored & thinly sliced
- 2 oranges, thinly sliced
- 1 lemon, thinly sliced
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1 vanilla bean
- 8 cups apple cider
- 1 cup pomegranate juice
- 2 cups water
- 1/8 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup bourbon
- 1 shot Cointreau
- extra cinnamon sticks for garnish
Directions:
Combine apple, slices of one orange, the apple cider, pomegranate juice, lemon, cinnamon sticks, brown sugar, water, and vanilla bean into the crock pot and heat, covered, on high for three hours. Remove the apple, orange & lemon slices from the crock and then chop the apple up in smaller pieces then return them to the mulled cider. Trash the orange and lemon slices.
Mix in your choice of bourbon and Cointreau; stir well. To serve: place two fresh orange slices into a mug and a fresh cinnamon stick. Ladle into each cup making sure to include a few apple slices.
