Virtual Assistants allow you to take your business to the next level without needing to hire new staff or make big financial commitments. Plus, the can help you to focus on doing what you love, not what you have to do. But how do you figure out what YOU should delegate to a VA?
Your business is growing. You’ve got a never ending to-do list and to get your business to where it needs to be you’re going to have to delegate. These days hiring employees is not the only answer – more and more small business owners are bringing Virtual Assistants onto their teams. It’s much cheaper and more efficient in many cases especially as assistants tend to work remotely.

The problem?
Most of us find it hard to let go when it comes the businesses we’ve worked so hard on. And let’s be honest, some of us are just classic Type A control freaks. How do we even begin to figure out what tasks to delegate to a Virtual Assistant that will help us to take our business to the next level?
The solution
This is the tried and tested Heck Yeah! vs. Heck No! exercise direct from our CEO – Mary Baird-Wilcock, CSEP.
All you need is a timer, a pen and some paper. You might want to take a look at your diary or to-do list before you start to help remind you of your tasks for the week too.
Step 1:
Step away from your computer, put your phone on do not disturb mode and make sure you’re ready to focus. Then, set your timer to 7 minutes. GO!
Step 2:
Write a list of ALL the tasks that are currently on your plate this week for work. Big or small – it doesn’t matter – write them all down. This is a brain dump. Get everything out of your head and onto the paper in front of you. 7 minutes tends to be enough time to make you focus without feeling too rushed
Step 3:
Once your 7 minutes are up, it’s time to review your list. Put a star or highlight all of the tasks that you enjoy. The ones that energize you and light you up. Which of the things on your list do you love to do?
You’re keeping these! These tasks are part of the passion you have for your business.
Step 4:
What’s left on your list?
Put a big X next to the tasks that drain you. The stuff you HAVE to do to keep your business running but that you dread.
You should also put a big question mark next to any tasks you feel aren’t giving you a good return on your time or money.
Are you getting distracted from bigger tasks by email enquires? Sure you could spend hours watching You Tube tutorials to learn how to update your website and make it look better than your competitors, but would your time be better spent on tasks that only you can do?
Those X and ? tasks are the ones you should be looking to automate, get rid of completely OR outsourcing instead.
What are those tasks for you? They might be book keeping, handling emails and enquiries, doing research, updating your website and making sure it looks good, streamlining processes, blog writing or, getting all your digital files in order.
Step 5:
Keep it simple – Hire a Simplifier
You don’t even need to spend hours searching and interviewing potential VAs. You can hire one of our actual team members who works for The Simplifiers and has been vetted and employed by our CEO Mary Baird-Wilcock, CSEP.
