What’s on in Nottingham? 5 events to try this week

Feeling bored? Looking for something different to do? As event planners, we’re always on the lookout for interesting things happening in Nottingham so we thought we’d share some of our knowledge with you.

Events in Nottingham this week include: a chance to learn something new, an artist led workshop, a pop-up restaurant, outdoor theatre, and a dog show!

Learn Something New

Weds, 16th August – 7:30pm -PubhD: Mathematical Physics, English Literuture, Museums – Vat and Fiddle

Put simply, this night is 3 people in a pub, explaining their PhDs to whoever is interested! The talks are at “pub level” so it doesn’t matter if you don’t know anything about the topics.

Workshop

Thurs, 17th August – 6:30pm – The Art of Dissent – New Art Exchange

We’re going to be honest, based on the description we read, we’re not really sure what this workshop will involve. However, it does sound interesting and we do like the fact that the artists will be applying tongue in cheek humour!

Artists Sarah Maple and Miss Pokeno will be presenting a collaborative ‘Happening’ – a fluid workshop space where making meets performance to explore the art of activism. Engaging in the art of creative dissent, they will invite you to explore the potential of our combined creativity as a force of empowerment.

Pop-Up Restaurant

Fri, 18th August – 7pm – Monica’s Caribbean Kitchen – Debbie Bryan 

Tired of chain restaurants or just looking for something a bit different? How about a 5 course authentic Caribbean feast?

The dishes on the night will be made from locally sourced seasonal ingredients and you can expect an evening full of vibrant, soulful and flavoursome home cooked style food.

Outdoor Theatre

Fri, 18th August – 6pm – Northanger Abbey – Newstead Abbey

Fingers crossed for good weather this weekend! Hopefully the sun will be shining for an evening watching a production of a Jane Austen classic at this historical site.

Sun, 20th August – Fun Dog Show – Nottinghamshire Hospice

The Simplifiers team are big dog fans. Unfortunately, as event planners, we’re often running around between meetings, venues or with our minds focused on spreadsheets – which means we don’t have much attention to give to a much wanted office dog. Luckily, we can go to this Sunday’s fun dog show!

Whether you want to enter your dog to compete in one of the categories or just go along to look at the adorable pets, everyone is welcome.
