What’s on in Nottingham? 6 events to try out this week

There’s a good variety of things to do in Nottingham this week. You can try out a fencing taster session, go to some unusual comedy nights, discover new artists, or have a day out exploring The Park Estate’s gardens and enjoy some great food and drink.

Tues, 20th June – 8pm – Fencing Taster Session – Radcliffe Sword Club

Here’s something a little bit different…This event is a free introduction as part of Women in Sport week. All of the kit is provided and you’ll be taught the basics of footwork, attack and defence.

Comedy

Weds, 21st  June – 6:30pm – The Fall of Byron Montrose; Poet, Gentleman, Lover – The Nottingham New Theatre

We’ve seen this show before and loved it! Byron is a pun filled comedy story telling show with breaks for bad poetry. It debuted at the Nottingham Comedy Festival in November to a sellout crowd and has toured across the country. Think Don Juan meets Tim Vine. This venue is based on the UoN campus but shows are varied and open to anyone. It’s not just student performances!

Art

Fri, 23rd June – 6pm – Street Art Festival Launch Party – Surface Gallery

This popular exhibtions has been described as “the most anarchic, the most spectacular show in town”. It supports and promotes Nottingham’s vibrant alternative art scene by showcasing some of today’s best local talent and occupying the entire 3 storey building. There will be music, food, and a bar plus the chance to buy some art.

Opening Celebration

Fri, 23rd June – 7pm – Thinkover Atelier & Shop Opening – P Spowage Art Gallery

Comedy with a twist…

Sat, 24th June – 7:30pm – Millions of Voices: The Improvised Star Wars Show – Nottingham Playhouse

You don’t need to be a Star Wars fan to enjoy this show! MissImp, the East Midlands leading improv group, present a completely improvised show telling the story of everyday folk on the doomed planet of Alderaan based on audience suggestions. Be ready to call out what you want to see happen on stage and then fasten your seat belt for a joyride into the unknown.

A perfect day out

Sun, 25th June – 1pm – Nottingham Park Garden Trail – The Park Estate

We’re crossing our fingers for good weather because we’re really looking forward to this on Sunday!

Spend an afternoon in the Victorian heart of Nottingham and enjoy visiting a wide range of gardens and landscapes – some large, some small and some secret – while helping to raise funds for local charities.

There will be  23 open gardens and green spaces as well as cream teas, strawberries and fizz, homemade cakes, children’s activities and live entertainment. Plus there will be bar and food stalls from the likes of MemSaab, The Rustic Crust, Springhead Brewery, Boxed Drinks and bbq from Harts Hotel.

Still want more? There will also be art and a chance to try out archery!
