Dance Theatre
Tues, 24th – Weds 25th October – 7pm – Cockfight – Nottingham Playhouse
“Two blokes in a cross between The Office and an Australian style cage-fight.” That’s the sentence that convinced us to get tickets for this show.
Extreme physical risk-taking, graceful movement and slow-mo fight sequences, in a darkly humorous and surprisingly tender piece of dance theatre. This game of comical one-upmanship builds to a moment of impact where everything is suspended.
Cockfight explores the power play between men, the frailty of the ageing body and questions culture’s desperate desire for achievement.

A Spooky Show
Fri, 27th October – 6pm – Sobar Spooktacular – Sobar
We decided to add this event to our list after seeing the list of performers. Hosted by comedian Tommy Wager, there will also be terrifying tales from Adam Nightingale (who can often be found haunting the National Justice Museum). Adam Garcia from the Paper Street Magic Company will be performing close-up magic and demonstrating the his skills in mentalism.
There’s also live music from “a dark electronic post-apocalyptic Indietronica trio” and mystical makeovers courtery of Tinkerbelle’s Face Painting. It’s an unexpected combination but it sounds fun!

A Cinematic Happening
Fri, 27th October – 7pm – The Love Witch – Nottingham Contemporary
We heard good things about Contemporary’s halloween event last year so we had to include this in our list.
Inspired by The Love Witch, this Halloween celebration is a happening of cinema, performance and music inspired by 1960’s Los Angeles, psychedelia and the occult. Fancy dress encouraged!
It kicks off with a screening of The Love Witch followed by live music and tarot readings from 9pm .

No Ordinairy Ghost Walk…
Sat, 28th October – 7:30pm – Halloween Guts & Gore Tour
Join Ezekial Bone as he haunts the Lace Market. Stand where horrible history happened and hear true tales of murder, hanging, grave-robbing, misery and mayhem that took place amidst the finery and foulness of old Nottingham town.
Amongst the grisly tales there’s apparently a story about hundreds of people turning blue and squirting themselves to death!
