What’s on in Nottingham? 5 events to try out this week

By March 7, 2017March 13th, 2017What's on in Nottingham

As event planners, we specialise in non-traditional events and events with an edge. So, it’s only natural that we know where the exciting, weird, unusual and interesting events in Nottingham are!

This week, there’s a pub quiz at a gin bazaar, an art installation in one of Nottingham’s most historic sites, a night of comedy chaos, a street food takeover in an underground bar, and a one man theatre/comedy/dance show.

Pub Quiz

Tues, 7th March – 7pm – Quiz Night – The Pillar Box

We have to be honest. We’re recommending this purely because we visited this bar on Mansfield Road recently and LOVED the cocktails. Gin, pub quiz, chilled out night. Why not?

Art and History

Wed, 8th March – 1st May – Close Distance – Wollaton Hall

You might have visited Wollaton Hall before, but you only get to see some areas if you book onto a tour.

Created for the magnificent rooftop Prospect Room at Wollaton Hall, this atmospheric installation gives visitors a unique experience of an area of the house rarely visited by the public.

The Artists have taken inspiration from the building’s history and inhabitants and  have worked with image, sound, and movement to create a series of intimate film works that are integrated with reinvented found objects.

Comedy

Thurs, 9th March – 7:30pm – Gorilla Burger: Improvised Comedy Carnage – The Malt Cross

Looking for something different to the usual stand up comedy night? We’ve got the answer – an evening of mayhem and fun with MissImp.

If you’re feeling brave, you can join in and get involved with the games and scenes on stage. But if you want a more relaxed evening, feel free to sit back and watch a night of unplanned, uncensored comedy chaos.

Food and Drink

Fri, 10th March – 8pm – Street Food Revolution: Kitchen Takeover – Last Chance Saloon

We’re  big fans of the Street Food Revolution team who can usually be found next to Rough Trade in Hockley. Plus we love it when interesting people doing interesting things in Nottingham decide to collaborate. So, we were very excited to hear that they are taking over the kitchen at the Last Chance Saloon – an independent, underground bar and eatery in the Lace Market.

Theatre, Comedy, Dance

Fri, 10th March – 8pm – Paradise Lost – Nottingham Playhouse

We’ve watched the trailer, we’ve read the reviews and we’re definitely intrigued. A little weird and unusual – you know The Simplifiers are going to want to be there.

This one man staging of Milton’s epic Paradise Lost is a journey through the story of the creation of everything condensed into 75 minutes.

The show brings you the highlights of this well known but often forgotten story, beginning with Lucifer’s rebellion and ending with Adam and Eve’s expulsion from the garden of Eden. A single man plays all the characters, creates all the scenes and, despite his best efforts, falls a little short of perfection.
