What’s on in Nottingham this week? 5 Events to try out

Contents

There are so many interesting events going on in Nottingham – you just need to know where to look for them. As Nottingham’s event planners with an edge, we’ve got a lot of connections and knowledge and want to share our top tips.

This week we’ve got comedy for £1, a tea and tarot reading night, spoken word, and a unique shopping experience….

Comedy

Tues 13th December, 12:15pm – Abnormally Funny People – The Portland Building

If you can escape work at lunch, why not check out comedy from this group of gifted stand-up comedians? All but one of them is disabled. They are all very, very, very funny people.

The show includes a performance by Lost Voice Guy who also won the BBC New Comedy Award in 2014.

Spoken Word

This is another event in the University of Nottingham’s Disability December Events Programme. A free night of spoken word performance which looks at the sharing of mental health experiences featuring Eagle Spits, Jess Green and other performers.

Something different…

Take part in a Traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony, meditation, and release ritual. Attendees with also get individual card readings. Comedy (again)

Weds, 14th December, 8pm – £1 Comedy Night – The Canalhouse

This event has won Best East Midlands Open Mic Night at the Midlands Comedy Awards 2016 and with entry only costing £1, and 9 comedians scheduled, we reckon this is the bargain of the week!

It’s always a mix of new and more established acts. Some might be trying out their material on you, others will be doing more tired and tested work – either way, you’ll definitely find at least a few acts that you’ll love.

Shopping (with a difference)

Sat 17th – Sun 18th December, Primary Christmas Pop Up – Seely Road

This weekend will combine local designers, makers and food producers and evening drinks, snacks and music. Pick up some gifts for your loved ones (or yourself!) and find out about some of the unique and independent businesses in Nottingham.

Our top pics are Small Food Bakery – we LOVE their sweet and savoury goods!

Also look out for Skin Elixir – skin care made with natural ingredients. We’ve heard some exciting things about their stuff and think you should get your hands on some moisturiser or perfume before everyone else does…
