B144: Where will you be in a year from now? (guided visualization)
August 6, 2024

Let’s do a guided visualization exercise together: here’s how to gain clarity on where you will be in a year from now. How to drop down into your deep Intuition, get clear on what you want, where you want to go, and what you want to experience all along the way. You have the power to gain clarity right here, right now in this moment and I’d like the opportunity and privilege to guide you through the process.

Listen and participate in a guided visualization exercise: Where will you be in a year from now?

Before we get started, here are a few things that you’ll need to do in order to get the most out of this.

  1. Create a safe space - no distractions or interruptions

First off, you’ll need to create a safe space where you won’t be distracted or interrupted… and also, keep in mind that during this exercise, you’ll have your eyes closed. So yeah, probably not best to do this one while driving.

Silence your phone notifications… The world can wait for the next few minutes.

Then, get comfortable in a seated position or lying down, if that feels better. You get to decide. As with all visualization and breathing exercises we do together this year, you always get to decide what is best for you… take what you need, bless and release the rest.

Okay, now close your eyes or avert your gaze to the ground.

  1. Take 3 intentional breaths together with me

Let’s take three intentional, life-affirming breaths.

Now, let your breathing come back to a normal pace, whatever feels right for you.

  1. Do a body scan and feel your feet

It’s time to do a body scan… imagine you are slowly scanning your entire body from the tip top of your head, slowly down like molasses, all the way to your fingertips, and then to your toes.

What sensations do you feel? Knots, twinges of pain, soreness, or even , on the flip side, any feelings of harmony, joy, or flow…. just notice what you feel in your body, without judgment or trying to fix it. Just scan down, ever so slowly until you’ve done your entire body.

Once you’re at your feet, really take notice of what it feels like to have your feet make contact with the ground. To be firmly rooted down, the safety and security of that sensation. What do your feet feel like right now?

  1. Time to imagine where you will be in a year from now.

Keep your eyes closed. I want you to imagine it is exactly one year from today and we are meeting here as friends. It is one year later and all is well in the world. You feel calm, centered, and relaxed. This is a life and a reality that you’ve actively helped to create and one where you (truly) belong. It’s yours and mine and ours together.

Breathe.

As you think back on this year together, in these 365 days, you realize you’ve experienced and accomplished a lot, big and small.

More than you could ever have imagined, really. And that thought makes you smile. Some things you never thought were possible, came to fruition. Some things you wished for, totally happened. Some things didn’t and that’s ok. And some things you thought were little moments ended up being pivotal crossroads for you on this journey called life.

Breathe.

You look down and notice a photo album sitting in front of you.

Curious, you open it up and turn the pages slowly. You realize it’s a photo album documenting all the big and small moments of your work and life in the year ahead. Accomplishments, tiny feats, adventures, travel, quiet moments of reflection, evolution, and more. It’s all in there. What do you see? What stands out the most to you when you flip the pages? Again, what do you see?

Breathe.

Who do you see in these photos?

Who is with you? And as the photos and months progress, what changes, either in the photos of you yourself or in the types of events you took part in? Or maybe the locations? What changes… and what stays the same? Who do you see?

Breathe.

You stop on one photo in particular. There’s something about it that is incredibly compelling for you.

You notice the details in this photograph and try to commit it to memory. Maybe it gives you warm feelings of joy or deep contentment. Maybe it’s a group of unexpected friendships that you always hoped for. Maybe it’s a photo where your light shines bright. Your eyes soak up this one photo and place it in your deep memory because it’s important and you promise not to forget what it’s trying to tell you.

Breathe.

You turn to the last page of the photo album and smile.

What a good year it really was. Not a perfect year, by any means. There were messy parts, but that’s always the case, isn’t it? However, you are proud of what you experienced, witnessed, and accomplished... and proud of the part you played in building it and making it go, big or small. You know (deep down inside), your existence is making a positive impact on the world and your light shining bright helps so many people. It was a very good year.

Breathe.

Take this last moment to say thank you with your full spirit and remember that you can revisit this gift any time you wish. It’s yours forever and ever. You are never alone and you are always fully supported.

Take a moment to gather yourself with a deep, belly-filling breath. And when you’re ready, open your eyes.

—--------------

So, how was that experience for you?

How did it feel to time travel and see the photos from the year ahead? What came up for you?

I want you to set a 7-minute timer, grab a pen and paper, and take this time to write down everything you remember from this visualization exercise.

Answer as many of these questions as you like… or just focus on one. Whatever brings you the clarity you desire right now, you get to decide.

One final whisper

So much can happen in a year, right?

In a mere 365 days, your life could dramatically change for the better… Or not.

Truth be told, there simply are some things in life that you cannot control and that’s okay.

Accidents, curveballs, natural disasters, and other people are just a few… but you know better than I do what the “uncontrollables” are in your own life right now.

But remember, the ones who create a life that they REALLY want to live are ones who know that you can’t focus on the “uncontrollables.”

But instead, you must focus on what you CAN control, which are your thoughts, feelings, emotions and actions.

It’s not about what happens to you in your life or how “other people make you feel.” It’s all about how you react to what happens to you that is the greatest predictor on if where you are in exactly one year from today will be better… or worse.

Step back, pause, and reflect.

Where can you take daily, imperfect action towards the (true) goals and intentions that you desire?

In what ways can you make tomorrow 1% better for yourself, releasing any blame or grudges against others just a smidge?

Remember to control what you can and release the rest. Persistence is a muscle that you’re training every single day when you pause, listen, grow… and then take positive action.

I hope this visualization sticks with you the entire week through. Do it again and again if you need clarity or fresh ideas on where you’re headed next… Because when you tap into your deep inner knowing, you’re accessing your deep inner wisdom. That electric energy that can be found inside all of us that connects us all together. It knows. You know. We all know if we are brave and we open ourselves to it.

You can do this, I believe in you.
